$584m of Cryptocurrency Stolen in Coincheck Hack

One of Japan’s largest digital currency exchanges, Coincheck, froze deposits and withdrawals on Friday after theives stole $584m of NEM.

Hackers broke in at 2:57am on Friday but the security breach was not discovered until over eight hours later at 11.25am.

Coincheck says it has the address of where the stolen currency was sent but a spokesperson added it may not be able to reimburse the lost funds.

This latest hack is thought to be the largest ever theft of cryptocurrency.
