Windows is getting a little brother – a modern, lightweight version designed for tablets and portable devices.
Code-named Polaris, the new OS will be stripped of the legacy components that make Windows a full-featured operating system in favour of a lighter design that focuses on the basics – much like Chrome OS.
Windows Central reports “The current Windows Shell is one of the major legacy components that Microsoft is replacing in Polaris; along with leaving behind legacy components and apps like Notepad or Paint, in favor of a UWP-first experience just like Windows 10 Mobile.”
